Production pattern

Before the actual printing process, a so-called production pattern is created. The quality is used to decide how the pattern can be optimally implemented and which process/technique is used for production.

Production number

On the slip of paper enclosed with each roll of wallpaper there is a so-called production number. For connected wall surfaces, wallpaper should always be wallpapered with the same production number, otherwise small production-related color deviations could be noticeable.

Non-matching

Non-matching means that wallpaper strips are continuously cut to the required length without having to pay attention to a pattern. This means that the rolls are used particularly efficiently.

Burnout

Burnout fabrics always consist partly of synthetic and cellulosic fibers. Burnouts are also known as in-between fabrics, which is related to their appearance. A burnout is initially opaque during production. After the etching paste has destroyed the synthetic fibers, transparent areas remain in these places. There are also disadvantages to working with two different fibers. Cellulose fibers can shrink when washed and tend to wrinkle, unlike synthetic fibers. This can cause the fabrics to shrink unevenly. For several years now, it has been possible to produce burnout fabrics with two synthetic fibers. These are easy to care for and can also be made flame-retardant.

It is also denser than a voile or blind. The decorative fabric is not translucent, i.e. it lets daylight shine through but a person is not recognized.

Digital printing

Digital printing means that the print image is transferred directly from a computer to a printing machine without using a static printing form. This is how wallpaper is printed directly from the digital printing machine.

Dimensionally stable

Dimensional stability means that wood, for example, remains dimensionally stable under changing ambient climates. Types of wood with good dimensional stability have good stability. They hardly change their dimensions and do not deform.

Double cut

With a double cut, the strips are overlapped by 5-8 cm and cut with the sliding foot knife.

Duplicated embossed covering

A duplicated embossed wall covering is particularly high quality and the embossing is retained when wallpapering.

Corner protection angle

A small aluminum angle, perforated, usually with a 23 x 23 mm leg length as a 90° version. This is used before wallpapering to straighten corners on the wall or window.

Pasting

There are various pasting options. There are paper wallpapers that are pasted and have a soaking time of approx. 3 - 5 minutes. Upside down gluing

Every second strip of wallpaper must be glued upside down. This variant of wallpaper gluing is necessary for some wallpapers to avoid color differences between the different strips of wallpaper.

Glass fiber

Glass fiber wallpaper is very durable and is made from industrial glass fibers that are created by pulling molten glass into thin threads. The glass fibers are processed into a glass fabric in weaving machines. The glass fibre wallpaper gets its final properties through the subsequent finishing process. Glass fibre wallpaper is processed with a fabric adhesive and can be painted over several times.

Sliding foot knife

Shrinkage value of cotton fabric

Shrinkage values of cotton fabrics can usually be found on the washing label, which should be included on every curtain. The shrinkage value is the possible shrinkage that occurs when washing or ironing the fabric. For this reason, cotton fabrics should always be washed before processing and ironed at the highest temperature to avoid later shrinkage. The shrinkage value of a cotton fabric is a value of 3 - 5%, i.e. the fabric shrinks or shrinks when washed at 30 degrees. A washing fold is therefore sewn onto the gathering tape so that the customer can let the percentage out again afterwards. Cotton shrinks by the specified percentage after the first wash. For example, with a one meter wide fabric and a percentage of 3%, the fabric would shrink by 3 cm. In subsequent washes, the fabric does not shrink at all.

Flame-resistant

Flame-resistant is another meaning for non-flammable. Materials that have this symbol are often used in public buildings such as retirement homes, schools and catering areas. This is even a safety regulation.

SE - Silk

Silk can be described as a natural polyamide fiber because it is made of protein. It is characterized by its shine and high strength. At the same time, it acts as an insulator against cold and heat. However, it is sensitive to high temperatures, abrasion and water stains.

very good lightfastness

Applying paste to the wallpaper

If the wallpaper needs to be pasted, the soaking time of approx. 3-5 minutes must be observed.

Wallpaper primer

Usually a white pigmented primer to even out differences in the color tone of the substrate before wallpapering. A wallpaper primer solidifies the substrate and creates a stable, evenly absorbent substrate, thus providing optimal adhesion for wallpaper thanks to a non-slip surface. Wallpaper primer is usually solvent-free.

Carpet

Carpets used to be used for wall coverings as well as for covering floors, upholstery, etc. However, they are only used in the Orient as a versatile material, while in Germany carpets are used almost exclusively for covering floors. Carpets are produced on different backings, for example: fleece backing or textile backing. Carpets are particularly popular in bedrooms. They are easy to clean and warm to the feet.

Textile wallpapers

Textile wallpapers are one of the oldest types of wall coverings. They are textile fabrics that are laminated onto a paper backing. The textile fabric is made using intersecting threads or textile warp threads, whereby the threads are only glued to the backing lengthwise.

Deep primer

Deep primer is based on alkyd or acrylic resin. Deep primer is a primer for painting and wallpapering. A deep primer is used to limit absorbent surfaces.

Vinyl wallpaper

Vinyl wallpaper is particularly suitable for bathrooms, kitchens, hallways and stairwells because of its durability and abrasion resistance.

Non-woven wallpaper

Non-woven wallpaper is particularly easy to work with, flame-retardant and durable. With non-woven wallpaper, the wall/surface is coated with wallpaper paste. The strip is then applied dry to the wall. This also eliminates the soaking time. Since light-colored non-woven wallpaper can show through, a wallpaper base is recommended for the surface. The coating creates a surface of the same color and the wallpaper can be removed dry in whole strips during a new renovation.

Voile / Store

Voile is the name given to transparent, printed fabrics that are produced in different heights. In most cases, these are made from polyester or cotton. It is rare that you will find voiles made from silk, viscose or mixed fabrics. Silk, viscose or mixed fabrics are processed less because they require more care. Pre-pasted wall covering

There are wallpapers that are pre-pasted. The back of the wallpaper is pre-treated with paste, which is activated by briefly soaking it in water. This allows for quick processing.

Wash-resistant

If wallpapers are wash-resistant, they can be wiped off with a damp sponge if they are slightly dirty.

Water-resistant

Water-resistant means that fresh paste stains can be dabbed off with a damp sponge until they are processed.

Plasticizers

Plasticizers are the substances that are added on a large scale to plastics, paints and varnishes, rubber, adhesives and film coatings. Plasticizers are among the most commonly sold chemicals.

Soaking time

Soaking time means that the wallpaper paste must remain on the wallpaper before it is hung to soak it. The soaking time varies depending on the thickness and quality of the wallpaper paper. The exact soaking time is stated on the insert in each roll of wallpaper. When wallpapering, the soaking time must be approximately the same for all strips, as different soaking times can cause pattern shifts.

White paintable

White paintable wallpaper can be painted over several times. The wallpaper has many different structures. It is comparable to woodchip wallpaper.

Wool scale

A wool scale consists of 8 levels, with level 8 corresponding to high lightfastness. It is used to determine the lightfastness of a color. There are also scales that are rated with a 5-level classification of stars. 0 stars correspond to levels 1 and 2 (not lightfast), 1 star to level 3 (slightly lightfast), 2 stars to level 4 (conditionally lightfast), 3 stars to levels 5 and 6 (lightfast), 4 stars to level 7 (highly lightfast) and 5 stars to level 8 (extremely lightfast).
